A family of winegrowers
We make organic and biodynamic wines born from our passion for nature
Since its inception, Parés Baltà has always been a family winery linked from its origins to viticulture and agriculture, in which all members of the family have been involved.
Since 1790
The history of Parés Baltà begins in the eighteenth century, when in 1790, the first vineyards were planted on the Parés Balta estate, vineyards that still surround the manor house where our winery is located.
The old cava cellar was constructed in the beginning of the twentieth century, stone by stone. Located 10 meters underground with a natural and constant temperature of 14-15ºC, it is the perfect place for the ageing of our cavas. The barrel room has all the small details to let the wines age under the most favorable conditions, even during the warmer summers.
The new generation
Three generations of winegrowers dedicated to the organic and biodynamic viticulture.
Currently it is the third generation of the Cusiné family, Joan and Josep, who are at the head of the winery, with the unconditional help of their parents and their wives, María Elena and Marta, two women that fell in love with the brothers while learning about the world of wine and becoming the winemakers of the winery for more than 20 years.
Our values and vision have invariably been linked to respect for nature and the care of our environment. They are the family legacy inherited from the first generation of the family, Joan Cusiné Hill and Rosa Cusiné.
The pursuit of a dream
To create the finest quality wines
Joan Cusiné Hill was born in 1917 in a small village in Penedès. The son of a family of winegrowers, he dedicated all his life to the cultivation of the vines. He began working at the age of 7 and could never be said to have retired, at the age of 80 he still helped supervising the agriculture work carried out on his farms.
His son, Joan Cusiné Cusiné, took over at the head of the winery during the 1980s. He produced the first white wine, Blanc de Pacs, a wine that has become a classic of the winery and that we are still making today. His obsession: uniting wine with health. His wife Maria Angels Carol has always been by her husband’s side, supporting him to get Parés Balta wines and sparkling recognized and admired all over the world.
The consolidation of the family philosophy
Today, it is Joan and Josep Cusiné, the third generation of the Cusiné family, who remain faithful to their grandfather and father. They continue to produce high quality organic and biodynamic wines and sparkling wine, capable of awakening emotion and with the premise of leaving the land that we inherit in peak condition for future generations.
To this end, we work our vineyards with biodynamic viticulture, a type of agriculture that goes one step beyond organic, promoting biodiversity, using plant and herbal based remedies that enhance and promote the health of other plants, and creating the ideal conditions for nature to lead our actions in how we care for the vineyards.
The challenge of the third generation
To combine tradition with innovation
In the early 1990s, Joan and Josep married chemical engineer María Elena Jiménez and pharmacist Marta Casas respectively.
Their love of viticulture and the world of wine were decisive for their wives to decide to join the family winery.
The ladies were working in what would be their first harvest, when both decided to study oenology at the University of Tarragona, and later joined the team as the lead winemakers. Their primary challenge was to combine tradition with innovation.
